The Livingstone Steam Train dinner is a fine dining experience unlike any other. Your journey begins when the Livingstone Steam Train,?which has been restored to its former glory, departs from the Bushtracks station where you will board the immaculate vintage first class Lounge carriage. The Steam Train travels through a World Heritage site to arrive at the Victoria Falls Bridge in time to watch the sunset. After stopping on the bridge for a brief period of time you then head towards the Palm Grove siding. Enjoy the sights of the African bush from the stately dining carriages. Enjoy a romantic silver service five-course dinner on board the Livingstone Steam Train. This is a journey into a timeless world of charm, elegance and romance, where the natural splendour will stir your imagination

The ambience of the dining carriage offers more than warm elegance. The sash windows allow for panoramic views of the passing scenery as experienced by the early 1900 visitors to the region.

The Livingstone Steam Train

The Livingstone Steam Train consists of 5 air-conditioned carriages. 2 dining cars, a club/kitchen car, lounge car, and an observation car. The carriages are pulled by either a 10th class No. 156 or a 12th class No. 204 locomotive. One of the dining cars, The Wembley, was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company, and went on display in London at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924. Victoria Falls Helicopter Flight

The Livingstone Express is a luxurious steam train experience that transports guests back to the golden age of rail travel. Departing from Livingstone Station, the journey includes a stop on the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge for sunset views, followed by a five-course gourmet dinner served onboard as the train travels through the National Park

The experience includes:

  • Return transfers from hotels in Victoria Falls Town and Livingstone.
  • A welcome drink upon arrival.
  • A scenic stop on the Victoria Falls Bridge at sunset.
  • A five-course gourmet dinner prepared by The Royal Livingstone Hotel.
  • A selection of South African wines, beers, and soft drinks.

Premium alcoholic beverages, spirits, champagne, and cigars are not included.

The Livingstone Express operates on Wednesday and Saturday in Livingstone, Zambia. The schedule changes between summer and winter:

  • Summer (1 November – 30 April):

  • Pick-up: 17:00
  • Train departs: 17:30
  • Return: 21:30
  • Winter (1 May – 31 October):

  • Pick-up: 16:30
  • Train departs: 17:00
  • Return: 21:00

The entire experience lasts approximately 4 hours.

The Steam Train Dinner Safari is priced from $215.00 per person, which includes the train journey, dinner, select beverages, and return transfers. Please note that visa fees may apply for guests crossing borders, i.e. Livingstone Guests to Victoria Falls, or Victoria Falls Guests to Livingstone.

Yes, guests are required to dress in smart casual attire. During winter months (May to August), it’s advisable to bring a warm sweater or jacket, as it can get chilly in the evenings.

Children are welcome; however, the experience is not advisable for children under 12 years. Children pay the full adult rate.

Unfortunately, the carriages date back to the 1930s and cannot accommodate a wheelchair. Guests with mobility concerns should contact the booking agent for more information.

If you provide all your passport details at the booking stage, then you do not need to carry them with you.

If you don’t provide details in advance, then you are required to carry your passports for identification purposes only. This will not affect your visa status, and passports will not be stamped.

The dinner is a five-course gourmet meal prepared by the Royal Livingstone Hotel. The menu constantly changes to take advantage of seasonal produce, but will include a variety of dishes, and special dietary requirements can be accommodated if communicated in advance.
