FAQ's
Victoria Falls Flying Fox.
What is the Flying Fox in Victoria Falls?
The Flying Fox is a high-wire zipline activity that lets you glide horizontally across the Batoka Gorge, just downstream of the Victoria Falls Bridge. Instead of sitting or hanging upright, you’re harnessed face-down, arms and legs extended, giving you the sensation of flying over the gorge like a bird. It’s thrilling, scenic and suitable for all ages looking for a mild adrenaline rush.
How high and long is the Flying Fox?
The zipline stretches approximately 200 metres across the gorge, with the Zambezi River raging 120 metres below. The height and view are spectacular, but the ride is smooth and controlled, more of a glide than a freefall.
Is the Flying Fox safe?
Absolutely. The activity is operated by professional adventure guides who use internationally certified harnesses, double safety lines and quality-tested cables. Each participant is clipped in by trained staff, and all equipment is inspected daily. The activity has an impeccable safety record.
Do I need any experience to do the Flying Fox?
None at all! The Flying Fox is designed for everyone, from first-timers to adventure lovers. The guides provide a full safety briefing and make sure you’re completely comfortable before launch.
How does it differ from the Bridge Slide and Zipline?
The Flying Fox is more of a horizontal glide across the gorge, while the Bridge Slide travels across the bridge itself, and the Zipline offers a faster, steeper descent. The Flying Fox is the gentlest of the three, perfect for guests who want the thrill without a vertical drop.
What’s the minimum age or weight for the Flying Fox?
The minimum age is usually 6 years old (depending on harness fit), and participants should weigh at least 40 kg (88 lbs). The maximum weight is approximately 120 kg (265 lbs).
What should I wear on the Flying Fox?
Wear comfortable clothing such as shorts, trousers and a t-shirt. Closed shoes are essential. Avoid skirts, dresses or loose accessories, and make sure pockets are secure.
Can I bring a camera or phone?
Small items and handheld devices can be risky during the ride, but operators often offer professional photo and video packages. If you have a GoPro with a chest or helmet mount, you may certainly use it; ask your guide before your flight.
Do I need a visa to do the Flying Fox?
The Flying Fox is located at the Batoka Gorge downstream of the Victoria Falls bridge and is in Zimbabwe. If you are staying in Zimbabwe, there is no extra visa required, and you do not need your passport.
If you are coming from Zambia, depending on your nationality, you may need a visa. Ask your operator for advice, or ask To Do Africa; we will assist.
